Bramble (Rubus fruiticosus agg.)
Scrambling shrub that comprises hundreds of microspecies. Arching stems armed with variably shaped prickles and root when they touch the ground.
Field-rose (Rosa arvensis)
Clump-forming shrub whose week, trailing,purplish stems carry small numbers of curved thorns.
Burnet Rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia)
Clump-forming shrub with suckers and stems that bear numerous straight thorns and stiff bristles.
Harsh Downy-rose (Rosa tomentosa)
Dense shrub of hedgerows, scrub and woodland margins with arching stems that bear rather straight thorns.
Sweet-briar (Rosa rubiginosa)
Compact hedgerow shrub. Upright stems bear short, curved thorns, bristles and glands.
Dog-rose (Rosa canina)
Scrambling hedgerow shrub,long arching stems bear curved thorns.
Japanese Rose (Rosa rugosa)
Showy shrub with upright stems with rather straight thorns.
Hazel (Corylus)
More often a multi-stemmed shrub than a tree. Much Hazel was formerly coppiced. The fruit are eaten by many species of animal and bird.
Goat Willow (Salix caprea)
Also known as Palm,Great Sallow or Pussy Willow.
Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa)
A native hedgerow shrub with small unlobed, serrated leaves, dark brown-black twigs and spines. Hawthorn like flowers appear in early spring before the leaves.
Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
Laurel as its better known has a evergreen leaf simlar to Rhododendron which is another introduction.
